The A20 Justice Alliance has officially launched to challenge the unjust prosecutions resulting from the temporary 40mph speed limit enforcement on the A20 Sidcup By-pass. Hundreds of drivers have been affected by unclear signage and inconsistent enforcement, leading to widespread fines and court cases that many believe are fundamentally unfair.
Formed by those directly impacted, the A20 Justice Alliance is focused on three core objectives:
1. Raise Awareness and Build Support: Engaging with MPs, media, and the public to spotlight the injustices drivers face.
2. Fight for Legal Precedent: Fighting for appeals and judicial reviews to secure victories that pave the way for broader action.
3. Champion Group Action and Reform: Advocating for collective recourse, compensation, and reforms to traffic sign laws to prevent future issues.
Unfair Enforcement Highlights Broader Issues
The temporary 40mph speed limit on the A20 Sidcup By-pass was introduced with inadequate signage, leaving countless drivers unaware of the change. Despite clear evidence of these systemic failures, many drivers are still being prosecuted, facing disproportionate fines and penalties.
“Drivers are coerced into pleading guilty or are being prosecuted unfairly, as many are facing hostile magistrates and excessive fines just for challenging their cases,” said Neil Cuthbert, spokesperson for the A20 Justice Alliance. “This isn’t just about fines; it’s about justice, accountability, and bringing an end to this ongoing abuse of power.”
The A20 Justice Alliance believes this situation reflects a larger failure of fairness and accountability by Transport for London (TfL) and the Metropolitan Police. By working together, the Alliance aims to hold these organisations accountable while ensuring fair treatment for all affected drivers.
